Quarantine Camp

This is where the government has put away the sick. In New York the government has set aside several acres of land between the camp and the city building. It’s pure forest for many miles; try to escape and your survival rate minimizes. The Quarantine camp which actually only consists of wooden barracks is U shaped. There is space around the barracks before your meet the barbed wire electrical fence. There’s a cafeteria building in the center of the barracks and it opens only when the government feels like providing a meal for the sick. The guards line the perimeter and constantly walk around watching for any attempts of escape. They practice firing drills against the plain brick wall that makes part of the cafeteria. Their viscous dogs can be heard miles from the camp site. In this place, if the disease doesn’t kill you first, the lack of optimism will. 

Yes, this is where you sleep. Women and young girls are put in the left barracks with men and boys on the right. The barracks are fairly large with bunk beds lining the perimeter. The beds aren’t tall enough for you to sit up straight in, but they are fairly comfortable. At least they have a thin mattress, right? There are windows that can shut and open on the two farthest walls of the barracks. Even so, when it’s cold outside it’s cold inside, and when it’s hot outside it’s the same on the inside.

You guessed it, this is where you eat. Well, sometimes anyway. Even if you aren’t eating many of the sick hang out here and find things to do. In the event of serving a meal, they put the sick to work. They have them cook, clean, and serve the food. The cafeteria building is large and sits snug within the U shaped barracks.

This is every place within the quarantine camp along the perimeter of the barracks and cafeteria. Here the guards promenade past the barracks checking for mischief. The sick are allowed to roam the dirt grounds until a certain hour at night before they must report back to the barracks.

Here is where the Warder works and sleeps. The tower is located at the far upper right of the camp so that he or she has a clear view. A small version of what you call a house connects to the tower so that he or she can live.
